Costco US is a different store than Costco Canada.
Most Canadians don't realize this until they go looking. The wine wall in any US Costco doesn't exist in Canadian Costcos because of provincial liquor monopolies. The Kirkland Signature lineup overlaps, but the US Kirkland multivitamin has different mg dosing, Kirkland Whole Bean Coffee is roasted by Starbucks in US-only regional blends, and Kirkland US Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley doesn't exist in Canada at all. Costco US runs Kirkland Bourbon (distilled by Barton 1792), a Kirkland Blended Scotch sourced from Speyside, and US-only Kirkland Single Malt rotations. None of these spirits ever appear on a Costco Canada shelf.
The electronics aisle diverges just as hard. MacBook Air M3 has appeared at Costco US flash pricing of $899-999 USD; Costco Canada holds around CAD $1,499-1,599 for the same configuration. US-only Costco TV bundles bake in extended warranty plus a $50 Costco Cash card. Costco US gaming laptops (Lenovo Legion, ASUS ROG) ship in Costco-exclusive builds that never get a Canadian SKU.
The membership nobody told you about.
You do not need a Costco Canada membership. You do not need a Costco US membership either. Selectido holds an active US Costco Executive membership tied to a Minneapolis warehouse and Costco.com US. When you book a live shopping session, our US shopper walks the physical warehouse or logs into Costco.com US under our account — your card is never involved.
Costco's two national operations are firewalled — a Canadian Costco card fails Costco.com US billing validation, and Costco.com US won't ship to a Canadian address even with a valid US card. Our Minneapolis suite solves shipping. Our US membership solves buying.
How a typical Costco US walk-through goes
- Book a 1-2 hour live shopping window. $75/hr USD, 15% off two-hour bookings. A one-hour walk covers wine + spirits + Kirkland staples + a fast electronics stop.
- Your US shopper goes live from the Minneapolis warehouse. FaceTime, WhatsApp, or Google Meet. We scan our US Costco Executive card, you pick — wine first, then spirits, Kirkland aisle, electronics.
- We pay at Costco US checkout, then haul to our hub. Re-pack at the Minneapolis suite, photograph contents, repalletize bottles in cell-divider wine boxes that pass UPS Cross-Border drop tests.
- UPS Cross-Border, DHL, or alcohol carrier to Canada. Honest declared values. Toronto/Montreal 3-4 days, Vancouver/Calgary 4-5, spirits add 4-7 days. Doorstep, signed delivery.
Real pricing math: a Kirkland US wine case to Toronto
Here is the dollar-by-dollar breakdown the way we walk customers through it before they book:
| Line item | USD | CAD (≈ 1.36) |
|---|---|---|
| 12 × Kirkland Signature US Napa Cabernet ($14.99/bottle) | $179.88 | $245 |
| Live shopping (1 hr, included in trip) | $75.00 | $102 |
| Wine-case forwarding service (heavy, cell-divider re-pack) | $45.00 | $61 |
| UPS Cross-Border to Toronto (~35 lb) | $70.00 | $95 |
| 13% Ontario HST on declared value (~$300) | — | $39 |
| Total landed | — | ~$542 CAD |
| Per bottle landed | — | ~$45 CAD |
That $45 CAD/bottle Napa Cab matches LCBO's lowest shelf price for comparable juice. A second case on the same trip drops per-bottle math meaningfully — live-shopping and forwarding flatten, so case two only adds product plus proportional carrier. We cap at two cases per shipment to stay below LCBO-import-license thresholds.
Spirits work differently. Kirkland Blended Scotch ($24.99 USD/1.75L) lands in Alberta ~$52-58 CAD all-in including provincial markup; comparable Alberta-retail blended Scotch is $75-90. Kirkland Bourbon at $23/1.75L lands in Ontario ~$58-65 CAD versus Buffalo Trace at $46/750 mL.
What not to forward from Costco US.
Selectido's job is to tell you when the math doesn't work. Skip these — cost-prohibitive, restricted, or perishable:
- Kirkland bottled water (40-pack) — 30+ lb of free liquid, freight = 10x product cost.
- Paper towels (12-pack), bath tissue (30-pack) — dimensional-weight pricing kills you.
- 5-gallon detergent jugs — DOT hazmat surcharges, low $/lb.
- Frozen Thanksgiving turkeys, rotisserie chicken, fresh produce — perishables, hard no.
- 50 lb dog kibble, canned soup or Pellegrino cases — dim-weight death.
Rule of thumb: if dollar-per-pound is under $2 USD, don't ship it. Wine is ~$5-6/lb, spirits $8-10/lb, vitamins $20+/lb, electronics $30-100+/lb — those work.

Canada customs on Costco US shipments
Most Kirkland goods are USMCA-compliant or US-origin, so duty is typically zero. You pay GST + provincial sales tax on the declared value. A Kirkland wine case always clears the CAD $40 threshold, so it's just a question of how much tax. Alberta is cheapest (5% GST). Quebec is steepest (14.975%). Spirits add provincial liquor-board markup at customs entry.
| Province | Sales tax over CAD $40 | Spirits extra |
|---|---|---|
| Alberta | 5% GST only | AGLC flat markup ($/L) |
| British Columbia | 5% GST + 7% PST = 12% | BCLDB markup (~89% on spirits) |
| Ontario | 13% HST | LCBO markup + bottle deposit |
| Quebec | 5% GST + 9.975% QST = 14.975% | SAQ exclusive importation |
| Manitoba / Saskatchewan | 5% GST + 6-7% PST = 11-12% | Provincial board markup |
| Maritime (NB, NS, PE, NL) | 15% HST | Provincial liquor commission |
