Selectido makes sense when your time away is longer than 30 days, or when you'll be in multiple locations and want a stable US address for any urgent mail, or when you also expect packages from UPS/FedEx/DHL/Amazon while gone. The breakeven is roughly: 30+ days away, or any duration where you expect at least one important package or letter to arrive.

Does Selectido work for military deployments?

Yes — long-term deployments (6-12 months, sometimes longer) are one of the cleanest use cases for our service. We hold all mail at our Minneapolis hub indefinitely. We can forward bulk shipments to your APO/FPO/DPO address every 4-6 weeks, send time-sensitive scanned letters to your email (W-2, IRS notices, ID renewals), or hold everything until you return stateside. We do not charge subscription fees so your bill matches your actual usage during the deployment. Plenty of returning service members have used Selectido for the back-half of OCONUS rotations.

Will my US bank accept this address?

Our address is a real US street address in Minneapolis, Minnesota — not a PO Box, not a UPS Store mailbox. Most US banks (Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Charles Schwab, Fidelity), brokerages, the IRS, and most US retailers accept it as a US mailing address. A small minority of institutions require a residential US address (rather than a mail-receiving address); those are exceptions, not the rule. If you'd like, email us before signing up and we'll tell you honestly whether our address is likely to work for your specific bank's policy.

Can I sign up before I leave the US?

Yes — and we recommend it. Sign up at least 7-14 days before you leave so you have time to update your address with your bank, the IRS, your employer, subscription services, and any other senders. The earlier you make the switch, the cleaner the handoff. You can sign up online from anywhere; once your Suite ID is assigned, just start using the Selectido address on whatever you want forwarded long-term.

Do you scan letters or just hold them?

Both. We photograph the outside of every envelope at intake (sender, postmark, condition) and post it to your Selectido Orders tab. If a letter is time-sensitive and you don't want to wait for the international shipment, ask us to open and scan it — we'll email the contents to you. There's no extra charge for occasional scan requests (up to roughly 5-10 letters per month). Heavy scan workloads get a custom quote.

What about USPS Change of Address?

USPS Change of Address (COA) is different from Hold Mail. COA redirects your mail to a new US address for up to 12 months. It works well if you're permanently moving within the US. It does not work if (1) you're temporarily away and will return to your original address, (2) you want to receive mail outside the US, or (3) you want to receive mail from non-USPS carriers like UPS, FedEx, DHL, or Amazon Logistics — COA only affects USPS-handled mail. For long-term absences with a planned return, Selectido is generally a cleaner fit.

How much does Selectido cost compared to USPS Hold Mail?

USPS Hold Mail is free for up to 30 days. After 30 days, it stops. Selectido is $14.99 per outbound shipment plus actual carrier shipping (typically $5-15 domestic, $25-60 international). The first 60 days of storage are free; storage past 60 days is $2/day. For someone away for 6 months who forwards mail every 6-8 weeks, Selectido typically costs $60-100 in service fees plus carrier shipping. There is no equivalent USPS service for that use case.
