The expat-American snack list, by occasion
If you're an American living abroad, you know the feeling: a craving hits, and the local supermarket has nothing close. UK Hershey's tastes wrong. UAE Reese's runs out at Carrefour. Brazil's Pop-Tarts shelves only have Strawberry. Korea has no Trader Joe's Cookie Butter at all. We talk to thousands of expat Americans every month — here's what they actually buy, sorted by occasion.
Pop-Tarts for breakfast
The #1 expat-American request. Most expats stock 3–4 boxes at a time. Most-missed flavors: Frosted S'mores, Hot Fudge Sundae, Cookies & Crème, Cherry, Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Wild Berry. See Pop-Tarts.
Goldfish for kids' lunches
American expat parents abroad consistently report their kids reject local lunch crackers. Goldfish (cheddar, pretzel, flavor-blasted) is a non-negotiable for school lunchboxes. Cheez-It similar — see Cheez-It.
Reese's at Halloween
Halloween candy is a huge expat moment. Reese's Pumpkins (the orange-foil seasonal shape) and Reese's Cups are the universal trick-or-treat candy back home. See our Halloween candy page.
Hershey's for birthday cake
Hershey's chocolate frosting and Hershey's syrup are the standard American birthday-cake topping. The international "Hershey's" sold in UK / UAE / Brazil is made under license with different milk — the US recipe is meaningfully different. We ship the US recipe.
Trader Joe's Cookie Butter for Sunday brunch
Cookie Butter has no international equivalent. Speculoos is close but TJ's version has a distinct profile. Brunch-loving expats stockpile it — see Trader Joe's snacks.
