The balikbayan box culture, and where Selectido fits
Filipinos abroad have been sending balikbayan boxes for decades — big cardboard boxes packed with US/UK/AU goods, shipped by ocean for 6–8 weeks at flat rates. They're a beloved tradition. They're also slow. When you need US snacks this week for a birthday, a baon (school snack box), or a Christmas party, balikbayan won't work. Selectido fills that gap: air shipping in 5–10 days, no minimum box size. We're the express alternative when you'd otherwise wait two months. Filipinos most often order: Sour Patch Kids (the #1 Philippine import — sourness in candy is a national love language), Snickers (US recipe vs the Philippine version is noticeably different), Reese's, Hershey's, Pop-Tarts, and Costco Kirkland bulk items (Pop-Tarts variety packs, almond clusters, trail mix). Trader Joe's Cookie Butter and Joe-Joe's are surging in Philippine demand thanks to TikTok.

Shipping route + transit time
From Minneapolis to the Philippines we ship via USPS Priority Mail Express International (fastest, 5–7 days for Manila) or DHL Express (5–10 days, includes most provinces). USPS hands off to PhilPost in country; DHL keeps custody door-to-door. Transit time to Manila, Quezon City, Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Baguio: 5–10 business days. Provincial addresses (smaller barangays) add 1–4 days for final mile.
📦 This is your "padala" without the wait. The Filipino tradition of sending things back home (padala) usually means a balikbayan box at flat rate. For everyday or urgent stuff — birthday gifts, Christmas presents, school care packages, a kid's request for specific US candy — Selectido is the faster lane. No 6-week wait, fully tracked, insurance available.
Customs heads-up for the Philippines
The BOC (Bureau of Customs) applies the de minimis exemption of PHP 10,000 (~$180 USD) on personal-use imports — under that, no duty. Above, you'll pay duty (typically 5–10% on confectionery) + 12% VAT. We declare honestly. PhilPost / DHL collects any duty on delivery in PHP, or we can pre-pay via DDP through DHL.

The questions everyone asks
How long does shipping US snacks to the Philippines take?
5–10 business days via USPS Priority Mail Express or DHL Express from Minneapolis. Manila, Quezon City, Cebu, Davao, CDO, Iloilo, Baguio all fit in that range; provincial barangays add 1–4 days.
How much does shipping cost to the Philippines?
Forwarding fee $14.99 + carrier shipping. A typical 5–10 lb box: $55–95 via DHL Express or $40–70 via USPS Priority Express International (USPS is slower in customs, sometimes 7–10 days).
Is Selectido cheaper than a balikbayan box?
Per-snack on a small order? No — balikbayan is unbeatable on flat-rate per-pound for huge boxes. For an urgent order of 5–10 specific items in a week, Selectido is the only option. The two are complementary.
Will I pay customs duty in the Philippines?
BOC's de minimis is PHP 10,000 (~$180 USD). Below that, no duty. Above, ~5–10% duty + 12% VAT. We can pre-pay via DHL DDP for delivery without hassle.
Can you ship Trader Joe's Cookie Butter to the Philippines?
Yes — Cookie Butter (Speculoos), Joe-Joe's, Everything But The Bagel seasoning, and all other TJ's items are some of our most-shipped Philippine orders. TJ's doesn't ship anywhere themselves, so we send a shopper in person.
Do you accept GCash or Maya?
We bill in USD. Philippine Visa, Mastercard, and BPI/BDO debit cards (with Visa/MC logo) work. GCash and Maya don't currently process international USD billing for us — we're working on it.
Can you ship to a barangay address?
Yes — DHL Express and USPS both deliver to barangay addresses, though provincial ones add 1–4 days for final mile. For very remote islands, DHL may transit to nearest hub then LBC for final delivery.
Are these snacks fresh when they arrive?
Yes — we ship items with at least 6 months remaining shelf life. Heat and humidity can affect chocolate — for Philippine orders we recommend ordering Reese's / Hershey's in cooler months (December–February) or paying for express to minimize heat exposure.
