Before you buy a US television
This is the purchase we talk people out of most often, and almost nobody warns you first.
- The tuner won't work. US TVs use ATSC. Most of the world broadcasts DVB-T or ISDB-T. A tuner supports one family, not all of them — so over-the-air channels simply won't tune.
- The power may not work. Many US TVs are 120V only. That needs a heavy step-down transformer, not a $5 plug adapter.
- Streaming is fine. Netflix, YouTube, a console, a set-top box — all unaffected.
So: if you only ever stream, a US TV can make sense. If you watch broadcast television, buy locally. We'd rather lose the sale than ship you a $1,200 monitor.
Everything else is easier. Laptops, phones, tablets, cameras and their chargers are almost always 100–240V and need only a plug adapter. Anything with a motor or a heating element, check the label — and ask us if you're unsure.
