PayPal blocked your US checkout. Now what?
PayPal occasionally blocks international users from checking out at US merchants. Sometimes the block is on the buyer side (PayPal's risk model flags your account), sometimes on the seller side (the merchant has restricted international PayPal). Either way, you get the same useless error: "Sorry, we couldn't complete your payment. Try a different method."
Selectido sidesteps PayPal entirely. We pay the US merchant with our US business card and US PayPal account; you pay us via Stripe (or PayPal if you prefer — but you're paying Selectido, not the US merchant, so there's no cross-border friction).
Why PayPal blocks happen
- Risk-model trigger. First-time US merchant + foreign-account holder = automatic friction. PayPal's algorithm rates the transaction high-risk and blocks it.
- Currency mismatch. Some US merchants only accept USD PayPal balance, not your local currency conversion.
- Merchant-side restriction. Some US sellers manually restrict PayPal to US-only buyers (to reduce chargebacks). You see the PayPal option, but checkout fails.
- Verification gaps. Unverified PayPal accounts or accounts with limited spending history get blocked on high-value purchases.
- Sanctions / geo-restrictions. Some countries are blocked entirely from sending payments to US merchants via PayPal.
The Selectido routing
- You send us the item / link. Whatever you wanted to buy at the US merchant.
- We pay the merchant with our US PayPal or US card. Zero international friction — it's a clean US-to-US transaction.
- You pay Selectido. Stripe accepts Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Wise, Revolut, PayPal, and dozens of local methods (iDEAL, Bancontact, OXXO, Pix, etc.). You pay in your currency.
- We ship to your door. Forwarding fee $14.99 + actual carrier rate.
Payment methods Selectido accepts (you pay us, not the US merchant)
What if I don't have a credit card at all?
Bank transfer works. We accept Wise (most countries), Revolut (most of Europe + MENA), local-currency bank transfer (USA, Mexico, Brazil via Pix, India via UPI on request), and even cash voucher payments (OXXO in Mexico, Boleto in Brazil). The point is: getting money to Selectido is easy. Getting it from you to a US merchant via PayPal is what's hard. Let us handle the latter.
Common scenarios where this saves the day
- You ordered, PayPal failed, you tried 3 times, you got rate-limited. Now your PayPal is shadow-blocked at that merchant for 24-72 hours. Use Selectido instead.
- The merchant only accepts PayPal. Some niche US sellers (eBay private sellers, small Shopify shops) only take PayPal. If yours is blocked, we pay them with our PayPal — you pay us with anything.
- Cross-border high-value purchase. $1000+ items often trip PayPal's risk model. Selectido normalizes the transaction.
